About Una Torfadóttir
Una Torfádóttir began writing songs about heartbreak long before she experienced it herself. As a child, she wrote dramatic texts in English and sang with great passion, but as a teenager, Una began writing about her experiences and later returned to her mother tongue.
“It’s the only way I can write from my heart,” says Una. She has been working on the EPs Tangled and Lost & Lonely since September 2020 but aims to release them in the spring.
Una’s soundscape
Una’s soundscape is colorful and fits well with the theme of each song, but the songs were written over a period of years, all focusing on the same theme. Individual moments become a continuous story for the listener to discover themselves, each song like a diary entry or a letter containing everything you think and want to say, feelings. Difficult guesses that are often difficult to articulate. ‘Express.
Una writes most of the songs on the guitar in her bedroom, with her diary open in front of her. “What a fun process songwriting is, I don’t control the song, my job is just to find and try, listen to what comes and write it down before I forget it.”
A dedicated team of professionals and friends from Una is involved in the production of the album. Hildur Kristin Stefánsdóttir produced, Hafsteinn ráinsson mixed and Kari Islefsson masters. Una’s brother, Tumi Torfsson, plays bass, Svanhildur Loa Bergvensdóttir plays drums, and Una herself plays guitar and piano.
The process was full of experimentation, play, and fun, and the result is a beautiful five-song album that will be released in the coming weeks.
Una’s Song
“It’s one of those songs that was fascinating to write, I felt it and listened to it. There’s pain and bitterness in the lyrics that aren’t pretty emotions, they’re human and we all know that. We all love to find out. The reasons why things don’t go as planned.
You often blame yourself and don’t believe when people tell you everything is fine,” she explains, adding that she feels it’s normal that this is the first song people hear from her. “Here, I’m ready to release. . For the first time in music and in this song, I put all my cards on the table.”
